Frequently Asked Questions

The Questions:

The Answers:

What types of materials do you use?

In most cases we use Sunbrella® - it is a durable, breathable material. In some cases, where extreme stress is called for, we use Stamoid®

How will the weather effect these fabrics?
Will they crack in cold weather? Melt in hot weather?

NO! Both of these materials remain flexible in a variety of climates.

How do I care for my cover?

With Sunbrella® wash with warm water and Woolite®. Stamoid® can be cleaned with any car wash style soap.

Can the cover be altered after purchase?

Yes. Changes can be made at any time for an additional charge.

What are my color choices?

With Sunbrella® there are currently 58 different colors to choose from. Stamoid® currently has 12 colors to choose from.

The last cover that I purchased began to come apart. Will I face the same situation with your cover?

Many manufacturers try to cut corners by using grades of thread lower than #92. Bay Canvas uses #138 - a heavy grade thread. Also, for an additional charge, we can sew with Tenara® thread, a thread that will most likely outlast the material!

In the past I have purchased canvas covers that barely fit 2-3 years later. Will this happen with my new Bay Canvas cover?

No matter what the manufacturer says, the sun is going to cause shrinkage to your cover. UV rays & weather conditions are harmful!!! Just take a look at your local highways!
When we design & fabricate a cover for you, we take the elements that your cover will be exposed to into consideration. We make your cover a little larger to allow for shrinkage.
In 2 or 3 years, when you hear your friends uttering some choice words trying to get their covers on, you will still be able to fit ours on - minus the choice words!

What is the maximum size boat that you will perform service on?

We perform service on most sizes, but new fabrication is limited to 27-28 feet or less.
